Facebook pet costume photo contest

I had the idea to set up a facebook promotion for Chapman’s Dog Grooming. The idea is that people could enter a photo of their pet all dressed up for Halloween for a chance to win a $20 off coupon for grooming. Trouble is this is not allowed according to facebook policy so you have to use a third party app. Facebook does not want their tools to be associated with any kind of promotion.  You will however see other businesses violating those rules and they don’t seem to have a problem. If facebook finds out however your account could be suspended so it’s better safe than sorry!

I did some googling and there are a number of 3rd party apps out there that offer photo contests. I went with easy promos because they allow the first promotion free to people with less than 5,000 fans and it will run for as long as you like.

Below is a photo of Opal I used to for the facebook photo contest promo page.

If you’re in the Antioch, Oakley or Brentwood area of California enter your photo and don’t forget to vote on the entries! The contest runs through October 31st.

Pea babies

Yes we are some bleeding hearts as we have a couple of baby peacocks in the house! This one above had the unfortunate luck of getting under a horses foot. We found her crying by herself on the ground at night. They should be up in the trees at night so obviously she wouldn’t have lasted long that night if we hadn’t picked her up. We think she is a girl because even as a downy fluffy thing she was trying to feed and brood the other one rescued about that time below. Read more

What RU doing this Saturday?

If you have some time to kill while visiting the 2012 Brentwood Art and Wine Festival then hop on over to REI (also in the street of Brentwood) between 12 – 1:30 for and free short presentation by the Delta Digital Camera Club. I and two other members will be putting on a “photography tip forum”. Topics will be tripod usage, night photography and I personally will show tips in extracting an image in photoshop CS5. Come join the fun and don’t forget to RSVP!

A little trip through the little town of Locke Ca

Locke, Ca was founded in 1915 according to it’s website by a group of Chinese immigrant merchents who wanted to establish a town of their own after a fire had broken out in nearby Walnut Grove. It was originally named Lockeport after George Locke, who owned the land that the town was built upon at a time when Chinese people were not allowed to own land. It is also been designated National Historic Landmark District  due to the historical significance of the only town being built by Chinese for Chinese. Much of the original decendents have moved on but many of the buildings remain in their original state (a school house, an import shop, grocery store etc.)

Below are some snapshots from my visit to the little town. Hope you enjoy!

A fun photo shoot with some fun students

I had a really fun photo opportunity to take a handful of students to photograph for our photo library. The objective was some campus lifestyle shots. Some students of the drama program volunteered and we did a photo shoot one VERY warm morning! Below are just a handful of shots I liked. After a couple hours of shooting the sprinklers came on and a few of our hot models were game to have a little fun getting soaking wet before they had to go to their regular jobs. Hope you enjoy the photos as well.
