I just discovered a volunteer oak in my garden! It’s growing in an old raised plant bed I had which would be the perfect spot for an oak except I have chicken wire underneath to stop the gophers coming from underneath. I am afraid that if I let it be the roots will get strangled by this and it will kill tree. However if I dig it up to transplant it I will kill it as well. Hard to know the right thing to do!?
I think they like it!
My garden buddy!
Burt having a nice time in the garden. He recently had a grooming at my parents grooming shop, Chapman’s Dog Grooming. That’s why the bow!
blue gum eucalyptus
Happy to see my little babies sprouting!!! I have 100 percent germination. The next picture is of the same trees but they are only three years old. You can see horse pens in the background to give a sense of scale. I have read many articles of people who are against these trees for a myriad of reasons and I don’t subscribe to any of it. This is a wonderful tree providing privacy, shade, love of nature with the wind its leave and a wonderful sent. I have read they are trying to eradicate these trees in the parks along the coast which makes me want to plant these trees all the more.
Cute decoration
When shopping for the usual weekly groceries I noticed all the Halloween stuff they got in. I am not big on all the blood and gore stuff they get in but these little scarecrows they had on the end caps of every isle was just too cute to pass up. for just $11.00 I now have a nice little addition to my veggie garden to make it look more like a real garden. What garden is complete without a scare crow huh?
I got a hummer!!
Woo hoo! I managed to snag a picture of this little guy. My friend Steve told me some settings on the camera to get this. Mainly a flash sync speed of 1/250 sec so you can stop them and still get a little motion blur in the wings. I have a lot learn as I think this could be sharper but for now I am happy to finally see hummers out here. We’ve never had them before. They seem to like the bottle brush plant that is newly planted and in bloom now.
birdhouse gourd
Well the first step is to pick the fruit and that is what I did. My plant only produced this one and one really small one. I hope it works but it will be a while before I update this entry with my progress I think since I think this will take while to dry!
Here are the instructions I am going by: how to dry and cure gourds
