New camera & Pomegranites

Oh did I have sooooo much fun today playing with my new toy, a Nikon D7000! WOW – this is sure a step up from my D200. I have never been able to hand hold my camera and take pictures in such low window lighting like you see below. If you scroll to the bottom you will see my first video I shot as well with it. Not sure how much video I will do but it’s sure neat to have the capability to record in such low light. More images to come!

A little impromptu video on how to cut a pomegranate and my dog Burt eating leaves taken with the D7000.

Yosemite Fall Colors

I haven’t been to Yosemite when there was so much color before. Below is my attempt to capture some of that color but it’s nothing compared the real thing as the light streamed down and caught itself on the yellow leaves throughout the forest. This year I have managed to get to Yosemite at least once during every season and each trip held something new to see. A meadow that was dormant the previous time is awake with flowers the next. Or a tree that was lush with leaves that is now covered in fluffy seed pods. It’s a wonderful thing to experience when you stop to look, listen and experience.

New Life

I have another blog that I started for the new year called a PAD (Photo a Day). It’s an exercise in trying to get myself to think photographically every day. Today I captured my little seedlings that just started to emerge. They are straining a bit to get the light so I ordered a new light for them since it’s so cloudy, dark and cold for them right now. I have been reading about LED lights that emit little hit, save energy and can give the spectrum they need to supplement this winter. We will see!

I got a hummer!!

Woo hoo! I managed to snag a picture of this little guy. My friend Steve told me some settings on the camera to get this. Mainly a flash sync speed of 1/250 sec so you can stop them and still get a little motion blur in the wings. I have a lot learn as I think this could be sharper but for now I am happy to finally see hummers out here. We’ve never had them before. They seem to like the bottle brush plant that is newly planted and in bloom now.
