Los Vaqueros has been closed for over a year due to an expansion project of the dam. They opened the park up for one day of free admission and festivities. Below is a few snapshots of the day.

A hawk life
I don’t know what kind of hawks these are. I’ve seen this pair for a while near my home. I’ve seen them hover in the air the same area for weeks. I have seen them do fancy acrobatics for courtship and I have seen them mate. Yesterday I only saw one and it was obviously upset. I thought I would walk over and take a closer look as it seemed to be upset about something in the brush. It didn’t leave as I came near which was strange. I could only imagine that it’s mate must be stuck or hurt. I went into the hemlock weeds which were high above my head not knowing what I would find. I love the character that tulips get as they unfold. I also love them because they are the first to welcome Spring in this area.

Painted with pretty poppies
We drove along the Merced River in California today and the hills were electrifying with golden poppies. Apparently we hit it just right for the spectacular show of the California state flower to be in bloom on mass. This along the purple flower from the Western Redbud made a stunning show for the eyes as the color spilled down the hillside like a dusting of golden snow. It should be pretty for another week or so get up and see for yourself!
Business cards and online galleries
Today I want to talk about two really cool sites – one for business cards and the other for online photo galleries.
The fist is moo.com. Hmm well the name doesn’t really say it’s all but their product says the rest! I had never heard of them before until I attended a wacom webinar where they were talking about making “portfolio in your pocket” using photoshop tips, a wacom tablet and the printfinity pack from moo.com. They aren’t your average business cards where you have the same image on every card. You can have every card have a different image on one side in full color and your calling information on the back also in full color.
They are higher priced for your average business card but when I got them in my hands I thought they were extremely well priced! I didn’t expect such good print quality and heavy durable card stock all made from sustainable forest. Below is the picture of ones I test printed!

Kiss the Frog Contest
I was asked to make a little graphic for the kiss the frog contest our honors program is putting on. I found a cute bullfrog off the creative commons search and attached a sticky note to his face. I then tried various attempts to write with my intuis 4 wacom tablet words on the sticky note. Ya can read it right????
