Nice set of social media icons

I stumbled across this today and thought I would share. A very nice set of social media icons. As he states many of the icons our there are too large or too stylized and these are nice and understated. If you are looking for the icon you will find it – otherwise the social media icons should not compete with the content of your website.

Facebook pet costume photo contest

I had the idea to set up a facebook promotion for Chapman’s Dog Grooming. The idea is that people could enter a photo of their pet all dressed up for Halloween for a chance to win a $20 off coupon for grooming. Trouble is this is not allowed according to facebook policy so you have to use a third party app. Facebook does not want their tools to be associated with any kind of promotion.  You will however see other businesses violating those rules and they don’t seem to have a problem. If facebook finds out however your account could be suspended so it’s better safe than sorry!

I did some googling and there are a number of 3rd party apps out there that offer photo contests. I went with easy promos because they allow the first promotion free to people with less than 5,000 fans and it will run for as long as you like.

Below is a photo of Opal I used to for the facebook photo contest promo page.

If you’re in the Antioch, Oakley or Brentwood area of California enter your photo and don’t forget to vote on the entries! The contest runs through October 31st.

Find your Facebook ID

Have you ever needed to put a like button on your webpage or want to show what fans are following your page? I recently needed to set that up on a website and for that you need your FaceBook ID. This is not always as easy to find as you might think. It’s not a simple matter of copy and pasting the web address. If the person has a vanity address where their name is part of the web address then the string of numerical digits don’t show. I found this nifty website that takes guess work out of hunting around for you ID. It has the very intuitive name of “Find your Facebook ID“.

Just paste your Facebook address in their field box and it will spit back a string of numbers that is your unique Facebook ID!

It’s the season of politics!

In my last post I talked about working on one of the photographs that I used for a website I was working on for a woman who is running for Antioch City Council. Below is a screenshot from her site http://www.mwilson4antiochcouncil.com/

I worked with her campaign manger of winningresults.inc and designed her site. I took photographs, designed and added things like a blog and a page for paypal contributions. She now is updating her site using Adobe Contribute.

Cool learning web application

I’ve been very impressed with this web application and it’s many uses that I just had to share what it does. Since I work at a college I can really see how it can help with content in the classroom. With it’s easy sharing and embedding you can put in almost any course management system. Hope many people join and keep this site alive for a long time!
