Well I got my chance to go back to Yosemite this weekend and try my luck at getting the light on Horsetail falls. It was GORGEOUS light last week but I was in the wrong spot to get the right angle to light up the falls. This time I would say it was right and the weather called for the clouds to clear by the evening since we were between storms. Unfortunately at the last minute in came the clouds and blocked the light. We got there around 2:30 thinking that would be plenty of time to find a location. It was presidents day weekend and it seemed the rest of the globe had that day off as well! We circled the valley floor three times to find a parking space. Finally we found an angle east of the El Capitan picnic area that gave us a narrow view through the trees. It looked perfect to stand and wait. We set up our tripods and pretty soon I looked behind me and others thought it looked like a good idea as well. It kinda reminded me of standing in line for a concert and we all tried to get the same angle.
We waited until the sun went down but it was obvious after a bit it wasn’t going to happen so I took the shot anyway. See the photo to the right of the original. Like I said sometimes you just have to fake it! You know where I will be in 2012! Maybe next year I won’t have to fake it 🙂
Gorgeous! Great post! What group were you with?
Your “fake” is just gorgeous, Eloine! Loved reading your blog too. 😉
If you get really good that this Photoshop stuff you won’t even have to travel!
If you hadn’t told us you enhanced it in PS, Steve would’ve been crying on his keyboard. 😉
Wow! It still looks amazing even though you “faked” it.
My family and I went up but all the other people were just people who showed up. It was kind of a fun little party of people that assembled there. All that was missing was the pizza!
Beautiful! I think most shots we see are at least partly fake.
That’s a very pretty view of it!
