Then I traced around the outside of pumpkin and made sure my fill color was a dark orange. I used #964b09<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/eloine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/pen.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1233\" title=\"pen\" src=\"http:\/\/eloine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/pen-300x289.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"289\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eloine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/pen-300x289.jpg 300w, https:\/\/eloine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/pen.jpg 384w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To get the shadow effect I click the layer Fx button at the bottom of the layers palette and select inner shadow and make sure your settings look pretty close to mine. <strong><em>(Click image to make bigger)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/eloine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/fx.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1217\" title=\"fx\" src=\"http:\/\/eloine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/fx-300x237.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"237\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eloine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/fx-300x237.png 300w, https:\/\/eloine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/fx.png 588w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Duplicate this layer to make a copy of your shape you just made and then go to <strong>\u00a0Edit &gt; Free Transform Path. <\/strong>\u00a0This will make a bounding box around your duplicated object. Use your mouse and click and drag in from the left and the right to shrink the second oval. If some of the shapes don&#8217;t look right just use the pen tool and then press\u00a0 your control key and make sure your curser looks like a hollow arrow (called the direct selection tool). Then duplicate my settings below for\u00a0 the <strong>inner shadow<\/strong> replicate my settings by using this color #812c03 <strong><em>(Click image to make bigger)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/eloine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/shadow.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1219\" title=\"shadow\" src=\"http:\/\/eloine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/shadow-300x229.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"229\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eloine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/shadow-300x229.png 300w, https:\/\/eloine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/shadow.png 880w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For the <strong>gradient overlay<\/strong> your going to create a custom gradient with the colors #fff4c5, #ffdd4d and #6c1501 <strong><em>(Click image to make bigger)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/eloine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/gradient.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1220\" title=\"gradient\" src=\"http:\/\/eloine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/gradient-250x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eloine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/gradient-250x300.png 250w, https:\/\/eloine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/gradient.png 738w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After you finish with the pumpkin and it&#8217;s face don&#8217;t forget to make a little shape for the stem and put that on the layer beneath everything else.<\/p>\n<p>When all done group all your layers together by clicking the folder icon at the base of the layers panel and dragging the layers in there. This is so you can flip or transform or apply various options to all the layers at once.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/eloine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Screen-shot-2011-10-24-at-10.18.09-PM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1205\" title=\"Screen shot 2011-10-24 at 10.18.09 PM\" src=\"http:\/\/eloine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Screen-shot-2011-10-24-at-10.18.09-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"286\" height=\"260\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I made a new file and then applied a radial gradient of an orange yellow to a very dark orange for the glowing sun or moon or whatever that is. I pasted that into Adobe Illustrator and then told it to trance the image. I could have done that with Photoshop but it takes up a lot of RAM because it&#8217;s not as clean a trace. The other option would be just to fill this area with solid black to make a silhouette\u00a0and that would have achieved the same appearance. It just wouldn&#8217;t have been scalable.
